Half a Century of Jewelry on Cape Cod.
Since 1970, Ross Coppelman, has been designing and hand-crafting jewelry on Cape Cod. His early designs were inspired by jewelry and images from antiquity, while his current designs are inspired by the compelling natural beauty of Cape Cod. A Ross Coppelman piece is timeless, classic and beautiful.
Ross Coppelman has been designing fine handmade jewelry on Cape Cod for 50 years. What began as a temporary reprieve from academia, following graduation from Harvard College, became a passion and a life’s work. Working in high karat gold, platinum, sterling silver, and precious gems, he has earned a significant reputation as an innovative designer/goldsmith. His work has a flair and quality distinctly his own.
Working with a small talented staff of jewelers and sales managers, he designs and hand-fabricates jewelry in his showroom/studio on historic Route 6A in East Dennis, MA, a small village on Cape Cod. Ross works closely with many of his clients to create meaningful custom pieces to celebrate engagements, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
Fifty years ago, Ross began making and selling jewelry out of the historic home he owned with his wife, Susan, on Cape Cod’s charming and historic Route 6A. His showroom and workshop has moved three times since then, but each location has been on the same stretch of Route 6A. As Ross’ son, Adam, points out, “it seems like more than a coincidence that each of these was on Cape Cod’s Route 6A, a road that meanders through history and culture, with a beauty that rewards observers both casual and discerning. It’s where the asymmetrical patterns of nature share a space with old-world craftsmanship.”

Ross’ current jewelry showroom and workshop is in the Cape Cod town of East Dennis. It‘s a warm and inviting place to stop in, whether during the summer months, when casual Cape Cod beach-goers mingle with shoppers, or during the winter, when the smell of mulled cider greets people coming in from the cold Cape Cod air. Originally opened in 1994, the showroom is also home to Ross’ beautiful Cape Cod gardens that he plants himself. It’s not uncommon for visitors walking into the shop to pass Ross, hands covered in soil, reworking the composition of his gardens, before seeing him appear in the shop (with cleaned hands) to help them design a custom jewelry piece, or help navigate a jewelry purchase from the showcases.
Ross’ widely recognized Ocean Jewelry Collection of rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets features Cape Cod inspired waves, birds and sunny skies. The Starry Night Jewelry Collection sparkles with Ideal Cut Diamonds set in 22K gold and oxidized silver. Organic textures and soft shapes mirror nature’s flow in the Rockhammered Collection. An ardent backyard bird watcher/feeder, he has even created a series of bird-themed pieces.
“The best part of my job is that most days when I go to work I cannot predict where my creative explorations may lead. I am constantly surprised by the jewelry I make, as I gamely follow the process wherever it leads me. This is not linear work. What is not mysterious though is the way the natural beauty of Cape Cod has deeply influenced my work for many years.”
